What’s the Coolest Way to Accessorize an iPod? Buy It a Car.
01.25.07 (5:46 am)   [edit]

APPLE’S iPod seems to be everywhere. We can attach them to our home stereos and stick them into portable devices to bring them into our bedroom, kitchen and even the bathroom. With cases that clip to a shirt pocket and Velcro holders that wrap around an arm, it is hard to imagine a place where an iPod can’t go.

But the one place that has long been a challenge has been the car. Vehicles built before the iPod revolution have had to make do with FM transmitters and cassette adapter connections, neither attractive solutions. After market companies provide sound systems with iPod and generic MP3 player connectors, but owners often have to rip out or alter their factory systems.

In new vehicles, however, the iPod has found a home. Manufacturers are routinely providing sound systems with auxiliary jacks to hook up MP3 players and, in a nod to the supremacy of the iPod, which Apple says has 75 percent of the market, many manufacturers are also offering dealer-installed kits just for that device.

And digital music in cars is beginning to move beyond the iPod. The latest thing is hard drives, so owners can move their music collections out to their cars and leave their players at home. Of course, the hard drives were the latest thing a few weeks ago, but Ford Motor’s announcement at the Detroit auto show this month that it had teamed with Microsoft on a voice-activated audio system shows how fast the technology is changing. What’s next, an iCar?

“The growth is exponential,” said Christina Ra, a Honda product planner. “When we look at new car models three to five years out, we’re almost leaving a blank space for the audio technology.”

For now, the basic universal music connection is an auxiliary jack, but it has limitations. While the music from the player is easily passed via its headphone jack to the car’s sound system, the player can’t be controlled from the dashboard. Functions such as next song, searching for music and viewing playlists have to be done from the player, a distraction best left for a passenger.

IPod-only connections, made through a cable that is often placed in the glove box, let owners control, and charge, the player right from the car’s sound system. If the car has a display and it’s large enough, like the screen on a navigation system, that can be an easy process, but small displays that let users read the information only in bits and pieces can be more distracting than scrolling through the player itself.

“The most commonly used piece of equipment is the iPod, and from Honda’s point of view it’s the most important to accommodate,” Ms. Ra said.

Honda, General Motors, DaimlerChrysler, Ford, Lexus and BMW are among the automakers that offer an iPod kit for some of their models. These kits often cost about $200 installed, and some can be retrofitted on older cars. Honda also tackles the distraction problem with its Music Link system, offered as a $200 dealer-installed option on Hondas and Acuras. In addition to charging and controlling an iPod, it offers hands-free music searching through voice commands.

DaimlerChrysler is one of the companies offering a hard-drive-based system. Nick Cappa, a company spokesman, said its MyGIG music system, built around a 20-gigabyte hard drive (which also stores data for the car’s navigation system), had space for about 1,600 songs in about 6 gigabytes of dedicated space. It is offered as an option on the Chrysler Sebring, Jeep Wrangler and Dodge Nitro.

Heather May, manager of engineering communications for DaimlerChrysler, said owners would be able to copy music into the hard drive from CDs or from a portable hard drive through a U.S.B. connection.

It’s unclear if hard-drive systems will spread. Ford, for example, considered them, but has stepped away for now. One reason is that while MP3 players are ready to use as soon as they are plugged into a car, hard drives require work. All that music in iTunes on your home computer has to be transferred into your car. Imagine sitting in the garage for hours copying all your CDs onto your car’s hard drive (it took me eight minutes to load the CD “Low Spark of High Heeled Boys” by the group Traffic onto the Lexus LS hard drive) after having already done the same thing on your home PC.

Using a portable hard drive that is connected to your home PC is easier, but you still have to put your collection onto the drive, remove it from the PC and plug it into the car’s U.S.B. connection (if it has one), then copy the music to the car’s hard drive.

Daniel Eran, a technology consultant who runs the tech-oriented RoughlyDrafted.com, said hard-drive systems “couldn’t be easily kept in sync with a user’s home system.”

Mr. Eran said that most automakers “are interested in extending the iPod, not trying to replicate it.” Indeed, Ford said it had not offered a hard-drive system because customers were showing little interest.

“Our customers are saying, ‘Why would I want to have a whole other hard drive in the vehicle if I already have an iPod?” said Nick Twork, a Ford spokesman.

The Microsoft system the two companies announced at the auto show does not have a hard drive. The system, called Sync, will be initially offered on 12 Ford, Mercury and Lincoln models this fall. Kevin Keling, the marketing strategy manager for Ford, said users would be able to plug in and play from many digital players and U.S.B. thumb drives through a U.S.B. connection. The system will also recharge the players, allow users to see a full music display and choose songs using voice commands. The audio system will also read incoming text messages from a connected cellphone.

Honda’s Music Link also offers voice commands, but some owners have had problems with the system. Steve Vigneau of Shelby Township, Mich., said he had Music Link in his Civic and found the system hard to use and slow to operate. The software uses Honda’s text-to-speech technology and needs to be installed on a home computer so it can link with iTunes.

Chris Naughton, a Honda spokesman, said that text-to-speech “has not been as trouble-free as we expected, but many Music Link users are still quite pleased that with a single connection they can get a high-quality audio connection, head unit control and constant charging.”

For older cars with no MP3 connections, audio companies are also working with the iPod. Jaed Arzadon, a spokesman for Pioneer Electronics USA, said the company had been making its stereo units “iPod-capable” for two years.

At Fairfield Auto Radio and Security in Connecticut, Alfonso Chiulli was recently installing a $2,500 stereo, with a subwoofer and a trunk-mounted amplifier, into a 1987 Porsche Carrera. Aside from lighting up in rainbow colors, the Pioneer unit also had an iPod connector.

“Ninety percent of the stereos I sell today have some form of iPod connectivity,” Mr. Chiulli said.

Logan Fox, president of Neo Car Audio Systems of San Diego, which makes a $200 iPod adapter for many cars, said that specialist suppliers sometimes offered the best way to play digital music in a car.

“We try to stay ahead of the trends,” he said. “By the time carmakers put something into the vehicle, it can already be obsolete.”

Toyota Tundra starts at $22,395
01.25.07 (2:02 am)   [edit]

Just as we were about to close up shop and go play in the snow, what comes across the wire but Toyota's announcement of pricing for the new 2007 Tundra half-ton pickup. Considering the Tundra can be had with your choice of 4x2 and 4x4 drivetrains, three cab styles, three wheelbases, three bed lengths, three engines, and three trim levels, there's a lot of pricing to go over so let's get to it.

You can find all the prices that were provided to us by Toyota after the jump, but we'll relay the most important ones here. To start, the least expensive Tundra on Toyota's list appears to be the base Regular Cab with a five-speed automatic, the mid-range engine (a 4.7L V8 with 271hp/313 ft-lbs of torque) and a base price of $26,480. Conspicuously absent from this list are any V6 models, which would certainly lower the cost of entry for the Tundra a bit further. The most expensive Tundra model on the list is a Crew Max Limited with the 5.7L V8 and six-speed automatic that starts at $41,850. This particular Autoblogger doesn't go truck shopping very often, so we'll rely on your assessment of whether these prices are a steal or a sham.

You'll also find Toyota's press release on the pricing announcement after the jump, in which is slipped a quick sentence that reads, "...the Regular Cab 5.7L 4x2 Long Bed model features a towing capacity up to 10,800 pounds." We hadn't noticed that spec before, so for those keeping score, that would put the Tundra's top towing capacity ahead of the Chevy Silverado at 10,500 lbs., but still behind the F-150, which was upgraded to 11,000 lbs. for 2007.

[Source: Toyota]

UPDATE: Corrected maximum towing capacity for Ford F-150.
UPDATE 2: The least expensive Tundra will be a 2WD V6 model, which starts at $22,395. The V6, however, will not be available in 4x4 models.

PRESS RELEASE:

Toyota Announces Prices For All-New 2007 Tundra Full-Size Pickup

January 24, 2007 - Toyota Motor Sales (TMS), U.S.A., Inc., announced manufacturer's suggested retail prices (MSRP) today for the all-new second-generation Tundra full-size pickup truck.

Significantly bigger, more capable and more technically advanced in every metric of comparison, the 2007 Tundra is available in 31 models. The Tundra offers a choice of 4x2 and 4x4 drivetrains, three cab styles, three wheelbases, three bed lengths, three engines, and three trim levels. Tundra has been engineered for "true truckers" and is versatile enough to be a highly capable truck for work or for personal use.

The 2007 Tundra offers three levels of power, all with standard VVT-i. In Regular and Double Cab models, a standard 4.0-liter V6 produces 236 horsepower at 5,200 rpm and a healthy 266 lb.-ft. of peak torque at 4,000 rpm. The 4.0-liter engine achieves city/highway fuel economy ratings of 17/20 mpg.

The mid-grade option for these models – and standard on CrewMax models – is the proven 4.7-liter i-Force V8, producing 271 horsepower at 5,400 rpm and 313 lb.-ft. of peak torque at 3,400 rpm. Both 4x2 and 4x4 models equipped with the
4.7-liter engine feature city/highway fuel economy ratings of 15/18 mpg.

The Tundra's trump card under the hood is the all-new 5.7-liter i-Force V8 that features Dual Independent VVT-i and is available in every model configuration. Specifically designed for full-size pickup applications, the i-Force 5.7 puts out an impressive 381 horsepower at 5,600 rpm, and unleashes 401 lb.-ft of peak torque at 3,600 rpm. 4x4 models equipped with the 5.7-liter engine achieve city/highway fuel economy ratings of 14/18 mpg, while 4x2 models achieve 16/20 mpg.

Towing equipment is standard on all V8 models and includes a hitch receiver, 4.30 rear differential, supplemental transmission cooler, transmission temperature gauge, 7 pin connector, and a trailer brake controller pre-wire. Fourteen of Tundra's 31 models are capable of towing over 10,000 lbs and the Regular Cab 5.7L 4x2 Long Bed model features a towing capacity up to 10,800 pounds.

Tundra will provide the most comprehensive standard safety equipment in the full-size pickup market. It is the first full-size pickup to offer standard front seat side airbags and front and rear roll-sensing side curtain airbags on every model. All Tundra models also feature the STAR safety system as standard equipment, which includes ABS, Electronic Brakeforce Distribution (EBD), Brake Assist, Vehicle Stability Control (VSC) and Traction Control (TRAC).

Tundra is the only truck to offer 18 x 8 inches wheels with 255/70 R18 tires as standard equipment on every model to accommodate 13.9 inch front rotors. No other truck in the class offers larger tires and wheels as standard equipment on all models. Optional 20-inch alloy wheels with 275/55 R20 tires are available on Limited models.

All models come standard with an easy lower-and-lift tailgate, dual-zone climate control system, AM/FM CD with a mini-plug jack and MP3/WMA playback capability, tilt wheel, two power points, tachometer, digital clock, coolant temperature gauge, and dual glove box.

Global Warming: Adapt or Prevent?
01.20.07 (8:33 am)   [edit]

NCPA Study Shows Living With globalwarming awareness2007 Is Less Costly, More Beneficial

Trying to stop global warming imposes huge costs and provides very few benefits, according to a study authored by a Bush Administration analyst and released today by the National Center for Policy Analysis (NCPA).

“Living with global warming costs a fraction of what it would take to stop it,” said Indur Goklany, author of the NCPA study. “The costs of trying to prevent global warming far exceed any benefits of doing so for the foreseeable future.”

The NCPA study compared the costs and benefits of adapting to global climate change with strategies that prevent global warming, such as the Kyoto Protocol, and found that problems most often projected to dramatically worsen as a result of global warming are more effectively and economically lowered by adapting to climate change rather than trying to prevent it. For example:

* Meeting Kyoto emission targets would reduce fatalities from malaria by one-half of one percent, but investing an additional $1.5 billion annually for treatment would cut the death toll in half.
* Meeting Kyoto targets would reduce the population at risk for hunger by only 2 percent by 2085, but investing an additional $5 billion to solve agricultural problems in developing countries would reduce hunger by 50 percent beginning today.
* The population at risk for coastal flooding would decline by meeting Kyoto emission standards, but at a cost of $165 billion a year. By contrast, investing an additional $1 billion annually in preventive measures would address the problem just as well, if not more effectively.

Moreover, adapting to climate change would enhance both economic development and human capital and increase the capacity for technological innovation in developing countries.

“By confronting problems head on we can save lives now, especially in developing countries,” Goklany added. “Preventive strategies, like the Kyoto Protocol, will by default condemn thousands to poverty, disease and death.”

New mini cabrio chilli
01.15.07 (1:45 pm)   [edit]

MINI Springs into Summer with a hot new model. The ever-popular high-specification Chilli model, so beloved by MINI hardtop buyers, is now available in the Always Open MINI Cabrio.

Due to arrive in showrooms in December just in time for the summer holidays, the MINI Cabrio Chilli models gather together an outstanding array of additional features.

Both the 85 kW MINI Cooper Cabrio and 125 kW MINI Cooper S Cabrio variants will be available in Chilli guise alongside the exiting models.

And as with the MINI Cooper S hardtop, Cabrio lovers will be able to further specify their Chilli-spec cars with the optional John Cooper Works Tuning Kit, which boosts engine output of the 1.6-litre supercharged engine to a feisty 154 kW.

The MINI Cabrio Chilli models add a similar level of specification to that of the hardtop model.

For MINI Cooper Cabrio buyers, the Chilli package adds a choice of two cloth and leather seat facings for the sports seats, a multi-function leather-wrapped sports steering wheel, Cockpit Chrono Pack, 16-inch light alloy ‘Fin’ design wheels, chic Chromeline exterior highlight package, front fog lights and velour floor mats.

For the supercharged MINI Cooper S Cabrio, the Chilli package delivers the cloth and leather seat cover choices, sports leather steering wheel, 17-inch ‘Bullet’ light alloy wheels, Xenon headlamps, Automatic Climate Control, Cockpit Chrono Pack and Harman Kardon HiFi as well as velour floor mats.

The MINI Cooper Cabrio Chilli is priced from $41,100 and the MINI Cooper S Cabrio Chilli is priced from $50,100.

Since launch in January 2005, more than 1,000 MINI Cabrio models have been delivered in Australia. In 2005 alone, 675 Cabrio models boosted MINI sales to an all time high of 2,097 cars in Australia.

The success story has continued in 2006, despite supply constraints as the Oxford factory juggles ever-increasing demand from burgeoning world markets.

Aside from the blindingly obvious chic appeal of the instantly-recognisable exterior, the go-kart handling and zesty powertrain, the MINI Cabrio has been a rip-roaring success thanks to the high level of personalisation options offered to customers.

There’s no other cabrio in its premium price bracket that offers customer the ability to add safety vision cameras front and rear, colour coded dashboards, Xenon headlamps, satellite navigation or Bluetooth phone preparation to their cars.

The MINI Cabrio Chilli models add additional specification over a very high standard of equipment fitted to all Cabrio models, including four airbags, Anti-lock brakes, Cornering Brake Control, air-conditioning, power operated one-touch folding roof with unique sunroof function and heated glass rear window, Easy-Load luggage system, and Park Distance Control.

The MINI Cabrio has quickly driven itself into the hearts of topless car buyers in Australia,” said Justin Hocevar, National Manager, MINI.

The arrival of the Chilli will add even more spice to the MINI brand.

The MINI Cabrio Chilli will fire up customers who want to personalise their purchase even more. It’s the ideal car for fun-loving, always open drivers who want to make the most of Australia’s fabulous summer.

MINI is enjoying unprecedented success in Australia. The reason is simple. The MINI is a stand out car. You only have to look at how many wannabe rivals are said to be scrambling to follow in MINI’s wide wheeltracks.

They will have a long way to travel though, because the MINI is authentic, the genuine article. It delivers on all of its promises. That’s why it is a success in Australia and world wide,” Justin said.

Honda CR-V Best of Five Small SUVs in Consumer Reports Tests
01.15.07 (12:15 pm)   [edit]

The sleekly redesigned Honda CR-V outscored four other car-based small SUVs in tests for the February 2007 issue of Consumer Reports. But the CR-V still fell short of the top-rated vehicle in the class, the previously-tested Toyota RAV4.

The Honda CR-V achieved a "Very Good" overall performance score in tests against the Honda Element, Chevrolet Equinox, Jeep Compass and Saturn Vue Green Line. The Vue Green Line is General Motors' first mass market hybrid.

The Honda CR-V, Toyota RAV4, and Subaru Forester have consistently dominated the top of Consumer Reports ratings for small SUVs. Each is a well-rounded vehicle that delivers good performance, road proficiency, interior flexibility, and good fuel economy.

In testing for the July 2006 issue, the RAV4 took the top spot in the small SUV category, beating out the previous generation CR-V. Though the new CR-V just tested is very good overall, it didn't perform well enough to regain its standing as the top-rated small sport utility.

None of the other SUVs in this group scored close to the top-rated RAV4, CR-V and Forester. The Honda Element finished mid-pack with a "Good" overall score, followed by the Equinox, Compass, and Vue Green Line in that order.

Consumer Reports Cover Full tests and ratings of the SUVs appear in the February issue of Consumer Reports, which goes on sale January 9. The issue also includes ratings of portable Global Positioning Systems (GPS) navigators, and Auto Test Extra reports on the Chevrolet Avalanche and Ford Explorer Sport Trac. All of this material is also available to subscribers of www.ConsumerReports.org.

Among the vehicles in this test group, Consumer Reports recommends only the CR-V and Element. CR does not have reliability information yet on either the Compass or the Vue Green Line. Previous versions of the Equinox have had only fair reliability. Consumer Reports only recommends vehicles that have performed well in its tests, have at least average predicted reliability based on CR's Annual Car Reliability Survey of its own subscribers, and performed at least adequately if crash-tested or included in a government rollover test.

The CR-V has shed its boxy styling for sleeker, carlike looks. The driving position is much improved, the controls are more straightforward, and interior flexibility is improved. But cargo room and rear visibility suffers because of the new styling. The CR-V EX ($24,645 Manufacturer's Suggested Retail Price as tested) is powered by a 166-hp, 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine that provides adequate acceleration. The five-speed automatic transmission is very smooth and responsive. The brakes provide short, straight stops on both wet and dry pavement. Cargo volume is less than in the previous CR-V due to the sloping roofline. But the rear seats tumble forward in two split sections and slide fore and aft.

The Element, which is based on the previous generation CR-V, is an offbeat utility vehicle with plenty of interior space. But it seats only four, the low payload capacity limits its utility, and large roof pillars compromise visibility. The Element EX ($23,705 MSRP as tested) is equipped with the same 166-hp, 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine and five-speed automatic transmission found in the CR-V. The drivetrain delivers adequate acceleration and smooth and responsive shifts. The Element's rear seats fold against the sides of the cabin to create a large open cargo floor.

The updated Equinox is spacious with a roomy rear seat and easy access. Ride has been improved and the interior has been quieted. But handling remains clumsy even with electronic stability control and the body leans a lot in turns. The Equinox LT ($27,740 MSRP as tested) is powered by a 185-hp, 3.4-liter V6 that is only slightly faster than some four-cylinder small SUVs. Fuel economy was the lowest of the group of CR's tests, at 18 mpg overall. The new five-speed transmission shifts smoothly and quickly. Stopping distances are long. The Equinox's front passenger seat and rear seats fold flat for long cargo.

The Compass, Jeep's first car-based SUV, shares a platform with the Dodge Caliber. CR found the Caliber unimpressive in its September 2006 test, and the Compass follows suit. Pronounced engine and road noise, lack of agility, and poor interior fit and finish plague it. The Compass Sport ($21,660 MSRP as tested) is equipped with a 172-hp, 2.4-liter four-cylinder that delivers average performance. Its optional Continuously Variable Transmission is excellent overall. Braking distances were fairly long. Cargo space is modest, but the front passenger seat folds for extra-long cargo.

The Saturn Vue is available only with a front-wheel drive and is a very mild hybrid, meaning that it can't propel itself solely on electric power. It uses a larger alternator that can produce a small amount of power as well as charge the system. The 170-hp, 2.4-liter, four-cylinder engine is not particularly responsive, and delivers tepid acceleration, even with the hybrid's electric assist. The Green Line comes only with a four-speed automatic transmission, which is not as responsive or versatile as those in most small SUVs. Stopping distances were long, especially on wet pavement. Interior space is moderate.

Honda's new coupe stunner
01.15.07 (12:11 pm)   [edit]

Honda is known for striking car designs and the Japanese carmaker didn't disappoint at the Recent Detroit Motor Show where it unveiled its Accord Coupe concept car.

This concept hints at the all-new Accord, which is due for release in 2008.

Naturally the production Accord will be a 4-door sedan but rumour has it that a coupe sibling is on the cards too.

The concept's styling is neat and clean, while not quite as radical as the new Civic hatchback. But the show car's four tail pipes was shaped like the Civic's and also built into the rear bumper.

Under its bonnet is a V6 petrol engine.

Honda's focus driven by a 'car guy'

AT first glance, Takeo Fukui cuts the kind of reassuringly grey figure one would expect of the head of a world-beating Japanese car maker.

In a small meeting room away from the shiny tumult of the Detroit auto show, Honda's president and chief executive stays on-message about his company's conscientious focus on customers and commitment to innovation in engineering. But when the talk turns to motor sports, his face lights up with visible passion.

"Racing is something you cannot win unless you go through a period of sleeplessness and desperation and develop new technology in a very short period of time," he says via an interpreter. When seeking to build a winning car, even the experience of failure, he says, is "critical".

A former head of Honda's racing division who was seen behind the wheel of a Formula One car as recently as 2005, Fukui is what American industry executives call a "car guy".

In the 1970s, he was a member of the team that developed Honda's ground-breaking compound vortex-controlled combustion (CVCC) car engine, the first to comply with the US's Clean Air Act. As head of research and development in the 1990s, he helped shepherd Honda's soon-to-be-launched small jet into development.

The 62-year-old boss also sits, literally, at the centre of Honda's Tokyo headquarters. His office is on the 10th of its 16 floors, to which he usually climbs without using the lift. The senior executives who report directly to him are arrayed at eight desks around his, facing outwards but able to swivel inwards if they need to discuss something.

The seating arrangements suit the motorcycle manufacturer-turned-globa l car maker, second in Japan only to Toyota, as it seeks to grow without succumbing to "big-company disease", as one Honda employee puts it.

"In contrast with other Japanese companies, our company can be described as flat," says Fukui. Honda also takes pride in the speed of its decision-making. Engineers are assigned to its Formula One division to encourage them to think on their feet. That carries down to the manufacturing floor, where Honda's corporate philosophy urges managers "to go to the spot". This, says Honda's boss, means in spite of "having become such a big company, to listen and accept what the floor guys say".

As a company grows, he says, the tendency is to summon managers to the executive suite, which can slow things down. "Instead, we who make the decisions go directly to their spot on the floor and listen to them."

The point is critical for Honda. With a market capitalisation of some $US69 billion ($88.5 billion), it needs to avoid the pitfalls of success. Last year, for example, Honda struggled to ship enough vehicles to US dealers when rising fuel prices drove a surge in demand for fuel-efficient cars.

Toyota, Honda's bigger rival, has struggled with record recall rates in its rush to roll out new models to meet demand.

Honda's boss does not speak directly about his competitors, but when asked how he feels about being Japan's second-biggest car maker, he says: "We want to be number one, but not in terms of value - we want to be number one from the customer standpoint."

That means keeping an eye on Honda's far-flung operations, which include manufacturing facilities in the US, Japan, China, Europe and Brazil, where Fukui regularly makes the rounds. He has also been known to answer emails from middle managers himself. "We have that kind of culture at Honda," he says. "It's not a given in Japan."

One thing that does put Fukui more in the typical Japanese corporate mould is his long tenure at Honda, where he served time in most of the main functions. When he became president and CEO in July 2003, he was already a 34-year Honda veteran. His first managerial job was at Honda Racing Corp, where he brought the company back to bike racing after a long hiatus.

As well as helping develop the CVCC engine in the 1970s - key to launching the then-fledgling Honda to success - over the years Fukui has worked in development and manufacturing of motorcycles, still a core product.

He served a four-year stint in the US, where he helped trim costs at the Marysville, Ohio, operation in the wake of the Asian financial crisis.

His claim to partial parentage of the HondaJet comes from a stint as head of R&D, where he played a key role in pushing the jet into development.

Since the jets went on sale last October, Honda says it has already sold more than 100 at $US3.7 million apiece, mostly to individual customers in the US, where it will begin flying in 2010.

Breaking with convention, Honda's engineers positioned the engines above the wings rather than below, allowing for greater speed and fuel economy and a roomier cabin. "We're still looking at about 70 aeroplanes a year," Fukui says when asked about projected sales.

Like Toyota, Honda claims hybrid and other fuel-efficient technologies as a core competency. Even as Toyota steps up marketing for its Prius hybrid in North America, Honda is promoting its Civic hybrid as "a great opportunity for growth", says Fukui.

The hybrid accounted for about 10 per cent of Honda's 300,000-plus Civic sales in the US last year, and it plans to launch a smaller hybrid in 2009.

In two to three years, it also aims to launch diesel engines in the US, where, it hopes, tightening emissions rules will lure more drivers. "If we can get American customers to test-drive, I am sure it will go down well," he says.

On the other hand, Honda's luxury Acura brand in Detroit unveiled a low-slung, 10-cylinder concept sports car, hardly the greenest of vehicles.

Furthermore, the HondaJet, which carries only four to five passengers, arguably contributes to the environmental pollution the company publicly deplores. When pressed on this point, Fukui looks momentarily uncomfortable. "Personal mobility will grow globally as human beings develop," he says, so "personal jets are destined to grow too."

If somebody is to build them, he implies, it should be Honda, which introduced Americans to clean cars. "We have to do something about it - that is what Honda desires."

Fukui will need the courage of his convictions as Honda heads into a new era. Analysts predict the US car market is heading for a soft patch in 2007. Amid intensifying competition, Honda has faced pressure to pump up incentives, which increase sales but erode profits and hurt models' resale values.

Honda has had to offer some incentives but, Fukui claims, they are "the least" in the industry.

"We're not really envisioning increasing the volume of sales in a short-circuited way," he says.

"Mid-range, steady growth is preferable to a short-term surge in sales."

Highlights From The 2007 Detroit Auto Show
01.11.07 (12:30 pm)   [edit]

This year, Detroit’s North American International Auto Show is marked by unusually high-end autos. All-new cars unveiled include production-ready models from Lexus, BMW, Cadillac and Rolls-Royce. The show also features cool, futuristic prototypes from Acura, Jaguar, Lexus, Mercedes and Volvo.

An equally riveting display is taking place on the ground floor, or, more accurately, in the basement, where the show’s organizers have relegated Chinese automaker Changfeng. One of the biggest stories at last year’s Detroit show was the first-ever appearance of a Chinese car at the event (the lowly Geely CK). Changfeng’s display at this year’s show is just as big a deal because it shows remarkable development. The Geely was an oddity; the Changfeng stand, with five small SUVs and pickups, is significant.

Other notable displays include the new Rolls convertible and a stunning, sophisticated propulsion system of the future that General Motors (nyse: GM - news - people ) is previewing with its Chevrolet Volt prototype. The Volt is a battery-powered electric car that uses a gas engine to create additional electricity. That electricity can come from gasoline, ethanol, diesel or hydrogen.

GM is showing both the Volt and a separate cutaway of its propulsion system--a remarkably compact unit that will change the way cars look. With less space needed for a huge, traditional engine, the Volt’s propulsion system gives designers extraordinary room with which to sculpt the body, and extraordinary freedom to rearrange a car’s basic proportions.

In an interview at the show, Imre Molnar, dean of Detroit’s College for Creative Studies--a breeding ground for Detroit’s car designers--said the propulsion system is “a much more elegant, simple solution than the traditional hybrid vehicle that we’ve come to know in the last few years.”

“Hybrids are very nice but extremely complex and expensive to manufacture,” he says. “I think it [GM’s new system] is really the way of the future.”

But not everyone at GM is ready to declare victory. In an interview at the show, Cadillac General Manager Jim Taylor reminded us that gas/electric hybrid cars have allowed Lexus to increase its lead over other manufacturers.

“Lexus has just shot off,” says Taylor, describing the sophisticated hybrid cars on Lexus’ stand. “They have left the pack.” (Earlier in the interview, he had pointed toward Mercedes’ stand and said, “These guys get all the play. It would be nice to have their cash and their kind of stuff.”)

All indicators say the luxury-car market, overall, is growing, but Cadillac sales declined 3% in 2006, and Taylor predicts flat sales in 2007 as the company decreases production of its entry-level, high-volume CTS sedan to make room for a new-generation replacement. That replacement model, which Cadillac is introducing at the Detroit show, is poised to be a hit, based largely on its revised, handcrafted, surprisingly stately interior (former Aston Martin design director Henrik Fisker told us on the show floor that the CTS’ new design “could really turn around Cadillac.”)

Ford Motor's (nyse: F - news - people ) Jaguar subsidiary is another brand banking on a Detroit showcar to reverse its fortunes. The company is using the Detroit show to introduce the C-XF prototype, an angular, sexy, modern sedan that previews the new Jag S-Type, but more importantly breaks Jaguar styling away from its dependence on stuffy, retro designs.

“People have been telling us we have to do that,” says Ian Callum, Jaguar’s director of design, in an interview at the show, “and we’ve known it for a long time.”

Blend it like Bentley
01.08.07 (11:38 am)   [edit]

DIGGING into Bentley’s past inevitably turns up the link with German ace pilot Manfred von Richthofen aka the Red Baron. Credited with 80 victories during WWI, the much feared fighter pilot ruled the skies with his blood red Fokker Albatros triplane.

Bentley at the time was designing aircraft engines and its founder W.O. Bentley had a close-up encounter with Richthofen when he was strafed at an airfield. He escaped unscathed.

The Red Baron was eventually shot down in a hail of bullets behind enemy lines in 1918. Since then, a flurry of theories have emerged about who killed this larger-than-life character. Was it an anti-aircraft gunner or was Richthofen done in by Canadian soldiers on the ground after crash-landing his flying machine? One tale has it that his demise came about after he was downed by a Sopwith Camel plane powered by a Bentley engine.

Bentley’s history is as engaging as that of the Red Baron. Bentley Motors Ltd, formed in 1919, introduced a 3-litre engine that quickly gained a reputation for being powerful and reliable, just as the wartime aero engines were.

Choice pickings. The two Bentley Continental Flying Spurs are flanked by the GT Convertible (left) and the GT Diamond Series.
Names like Tim Birkin, John Duff and Glen Kidston are etched in Bentley’s Hall of Fame. They were the Bentley Boys, motor racing heroes of the Roaring 20s, who helped boost the marque’s repute near and far.

The car maker’s racing background, religious craftmanship and association with royalty and celebrities have since weaved a certain mystique into the institution that is Bentley today.

It’s in no danger of flagging as Bentley’s recent Diamond Anniversary Tour demonstrated.

It was held to mark 60 years of continuous production at the factory in northern England. Bentley Motors rounded up some cars for the 15,000km hop through 13 cities in Australia, New Zealand, Singapore, Malaysia and Thailand. The trip began in Brisbane in May and ended in Bangkok last month – with some sales to show for it.

The tour also featured a display of materials used by Mulliner, the bespoke commissioning department, and archival photography at Crewe.

The cars showcased in the Kuala Lumpur leg was the Continental range comprising the Flying Spur, GT Convertible and the special edition GT Diamond Series. The EXP Speed 8, a firm reminder of Bentley’s racing pedigree, tagged along as a static exhibit. This was the car that reclaimed the winners’ podium for Bentley at Le Mans 73 years later in 2003.

Revel in cosseting luxury when you slip into this convertible.
StarMotoring was invited to sample the mid-sized Continentals from Kuala Lumpur to Cyberjaya and back.

The Continentals look the part of British vintage sports cars - big, stocky and powerful, with the benefit of today’s better technology.

All haul the same 6-litre twin-turbo W12 engine and adjustable air suspension. Since Volkswagen took over Bentley in 1998, the Continentals have become all-wheel driven cars. As well they should be to distribute the engine’s deep reservoir of power safely and ably to the four corners.

Peak power of 552bhp comes on at 6,100rpm while a massive 650Nm of torque is delivered at a lowly 1,600rpm. It is no surprise then that these cars can hit 318kph with seemingly little effort though independent testers have shown them to be able to go even faster for sustained periods. Effortless torque in fact is the byword for Bentley cars.

The standard GT wasn’t around but the GT Diamond Series, created to mark the anniversary, was. Its exclusivity was indicated by the fact only 400 units would ever be made. The GT Diamond Series ratchets up the sportiness with various enhancements like quilted leather seats, 20” wheels and carbon ceramic brakes, a production-first for Bentley.

There’s no dearth of customers. At the time of writing, the remaining GT Diamond Series assigned to Malaysia is being considered for purchase by a prospect.

While the Crewe factory looks like your regular car plant on the surface, craftmanship is the order of the day.

Engines are hand-assembled and every member of the assembly team has to sign off each piece of work. Everything is torque-wrenched and nothing is left to chance.

Lacquer spraying of the wood trim and the addition of adhesive around the windscreen are the only two stages where robots are the exception to the rule. It is said each steering wheel takes up to 15 hours to double-stitch by hand; machines can’t hack it.

The Crewe plant is reported to have the best hide usage in the industry at 60%. Even so, only the best leather is used. Since Bentley does not use artificial grains or coatings, every hide has to be pre-tensioned and checked for blemishes. There are 27 standard colours to choose from and Mulliner offers a customised solution if the standard offerings are not enough. The Arnage range sees more of such bespoke applications than the Continentals.

Bentley has set out to create automobiles that offer cosseting luxury with the handling and performance to satisfy enthusiasts.

On the move, the Continentals surprise with an agility that is at odds with their bulk especially the Spur which is essentially a bigger GT with four doors.

They glide along with ease and quietness. For the times when the convertible’s top is down, the gusts of wind won’t so much as hit you in the face as they flow past the sides of the head. You can still hold a decent conversation or enjoy the sonorous beat of the engine as it sweeps you through traffic in grand style.

Watch the dial though as it’s so easy to hit silly speeds, lulled by the limousine-like comfort of the interior.

Such cars have stratospheric sticker prices and appeal exclusively to the few with very deep pockets. For those who can afford them, nothing beats that special feeling of driving a handcrafted carriage that goes like a rocket.

Smooth operator
01.08.07 (11:33 am)   [edit]

THERE is something about the three-pointed star that always sets my father-in-law's eyes alight.

The quiet man seldom talks, even less so about cars and there aren't many things that will draw his attention away from his Wah Lai Toi channel on Astro or his copy of the Sin Chew Jit Poh.

Expect a mature power delivery and wide useable torque band from the engine.
But last month, things were a bit different when I drove to his Bidor house in a C230 Avantgarde, DaimlerChrysler Malaysia's latest C-Class variant.

The Mercedes-Benz has always been associated with your typical Chinaman businessman types.

You treat yourself to a Mercedes-Benz once you have made it after years of sweat, toil and frugality. And the bigger the Merc, the better.

As he still has two earlier generation Mercedes-Benz cars, the 200 and E240, it did not need much convincing for him to get up close to the C230.

After a quick walk around the car to inspect its curves and lines, his focus naturally shifted to the driver's seat.

Once inside, he was instantly in familiar Mercedes-Benz territory with the generous amount of leather and wood panelling trimmings.

Also, the controls are similar to his E240 except for the C230's instrument panel which has been updated for current times, a large digital multi-information display lodged between the speedometer and tachometer dials.

But the biggest surprise came when he stepped on the throttle.

“This car has good acceleration and it's really smooth,” he tells me.

The C230's powerplant, a naturally aspirated V6 block, came as a surprise to him as he did not have to step too much on the throttle for the silky smooth power to flow in.

The new engine features a variable intake and exhaust camshafts design which adjust themselves constantly for optimum performance according to engine load.

The luxury appointments are typical of a Merc and updated to stay abreast with modernity.
The end result is a more mature power delivery and wider useable torque band.

The exhaust note, compared to the earlier Kompressor-equipped model, is also more mellow.

Although the C230's engine has 204 horses, my father-in-law was rather light-footed on the throttle and drove the vehicle the way he had driven his Mercedes-Benz cars for years - easy on the speedometer to soak up the car's luxury at a leisurely pace.

At the end of his brief drive, the C230 easily won his approval. With a compact and sporty appearance, the C230 could have easily endeared itself to younger buyers, too.

Anyway, the V6 engine is not a 2.3-litre unit as its C230 moniker might suggests but is actually a 2.5-litre naturally aspirated powerplant.

Unlike engines with forced induction, power from the naturally aspirated V6 engine is smooth and comes in instantaneously without any response lag.

The C230 is the first C-Class variant to be fitted with a seven-speed 7G-tronic, the automatic transmission that debut in the up-market CLS-Class.

Just like in the CLS-Class, the 7G-tronic provides seamless and fast gearshifts without having to stress the engine.

Driving the car along the bumpy and winding trunk roads from Bidor to Slim River, the ride was excellent with the suspension soaking up roads imperfections effortlessly.

Even in fast corners, the C230 could easily maintain its driving line with minimal body roll and precise steering control.

As usual, all-round ventilated disc brakes provide excellent braking power.

The C230 claims a low drag coefficient of 0.26 that made the car quite aerodynamically slippery and quiet even when we were speeding away along the North-South Expressway.

Its bounty of safety features includes front and side-mounted airbags, anti-lock braking system, brake assist, electronic stability programme and a rigid strong bodyshell. Other amenities are the Parktronic parking sensors for the front and rear, cruise control and wipers with rain sensor.

The C230 is also equipped with bi-xenon headlights which has a good spread of bright white light even during the darkest nights.

Attesting to its popularity, the C-Class ranks together with the bigger E-Class as DaimlerChrysler Malaysia's top selling models.

The C230 goes for RM268,888 (on-the-road without insurance).

The entry-level compact luxury C-Class was introduced in 1993 as a replacement for the Mercedes-Benz 190 range.

Muscles from Stuttgart
01.08.07 (11:26 am)   [edit]

The AMG-treated CLS 55 and E 55 are cut from the same sheet metal, share the same heart but display different octaves in the Mercedes personality.

THERE it goes, all slinky and self-assured. With a taut body and a low roofline, it beckons brazenly with the promise of untold pleasures in its embrace.

There’s drama in the curves of the CLS 55 AMG.
If looks alone could seduce, the Mercedes-Benz CLS 55 AMG could do so with unfair ease. With a swish of the tail and the purr of that engine, it’s quite a task to break away from the siren’s spell.

Coupes have taken a new twist, sporting four doors to offer the practicality of sedans. There’s a market for such strain apparently.

The 5-metre long CLS seems moulded as the reference point for lab tests in aerodynamics.

The visual drama begins with aggressive bi-xenon headlamps flanking a clean grille and mesh cover at foglight level. The lines stretch back in a sweeping curve in tandem with a beltline that rises to the back, ending with a pronounced lip set by an AMG spoiler.

The resulting effect are rakish windscreens with slivers of glass for windows.

The none-too-subtle touches of Mercedes’ in-house tuner are evident. The suspension, body styling, seats, steering wheel and instrument cluster declare their sporty intentions. More of the AMG interpretation is seen in the Speedshift 5-speed automatic transmission and the braking system for the 18” wheels on mixed tyres.

SIZZLE WITHOUT THE FIZZLE

A person slides into the lap of luxury once inside, surrounded by nice bits of wood and leather. The car seats only four and the low roofline means tall passengers in the back will groan about headspace - or the lack of it. Nonetheless, it’s an inviting cabin where the front seats, like those in the E 55, come alive to hug the bodies when the car is thrown about. There’s little to complain about the level of noise insulation as damping efforts are effective.

As in any coupe, the thrill is upfront. The mood is set by the AMG instrument cluster displaying a 320kph scale, suggestive of the sizzle the CLS could muster but a speed limiter has to step in to spoil the fun.

In manual mode, the driver gets a choice of either flicking through the gears on the stick or using the shifter buttons behind the steering wheel.

The car moves as good as it looks. On the go, the RM1.38mil CLS comes across as a machine that’s well behaved when the family sits in, and is outright exuberant when the driver is alone and confronted with miles of sweeping corners for company.

The supercharged V8 engine is a delight to behold, with a low torquey rumble that escalates to a full symphony of beauteous notes as the gases are ejected through four fat exhaust trumpets.

Acceleration is hardly shabby. Push the CLS hard and fast and it rises to the occasion like a lithsome creature that’s ready to pounce at a stab of the pedal.

It scores the same 4.7s the E 55 shows in the 0-100kph dash while the semi-active air suspension helps keep the car on a steady course, giving the fella at the helm plenty of control and chuckles.

In fact, other motorists will beat a retreat to the left faster than you could say 700Nm when they see the CLS looming in the mirror.

Add practicality to the coupe lingo, and the sum of it all is a car with the knack to command attention and the punch to deliver on its sporty underpinnings.

E 55 AMG

Externally, the Mercedes-Benz E 55 Kompressor bears similar body lines as other E-Class variants.

Except for some giveaways clues such as the AMG badging, subtle bodykit, the large 18-inch alloy wheels, a lower profile, and yes, those four chromed-exhaust tail pipes, you might have thought the E 55 would have been any regular chauffer driven ride.

EXECUTIVE HOTROD? YES!

As with the CLS 55, the centrepiece of this E55 is the AMG 5.5-litre supercharged V8 engine that separates the car from its less endowed brethrens.

Here you have the E 55 with a devilish 476bhp at the tap of your right foot.

AMG Aside

AMG or Aufrecht Melcher Grossaspach was set up in 1967 by former Mercedes-Benz engineers Hans-Werner Aufrecht and Erhard Melcher in Grossaspach, near Stuttgart, the birthplace of Aufrecht. AMG relocated to Affalterbach in 1978 and was bought over by Mercedes-Benz in 1999.

It’s one executive hotrod that has easily more ferocity than almost any two-door sports coupes we could think off, with enough horses to crack the 0 to 100kph run under 4.7 seconds,

On a straight stretch of Jalan Damansara, Kuala Lumpur, we had the E 55 reaching the three-figure speed mark in just a few heartbeats. The engine felt relaxed and refined even when hauling the E 55’s 1.8 tonne of steel.

The car would continue to gain speed at an explosive rate and it was a question of whether we dared keep our foot down on the throttle long enough.

What also got us excited was that the E 55 could accelerate at any given speed.

Just step on it and the power surges while the transmission quickly drops a gear or two to let the G-force sink you deeper in the seat.

Mercedes-Benz E55 AMG V8 Kompressor
Though based on the body of the roomy E-Class, the E 55 gets healthy doses of sporty input, with dark and grittier interiors and the leather-stitched front seats are styled to hug your body in any adrenaline pumping drive.

These seats, termed as “Dynamic Seats” by Mercedes-Benz, can be electrically adjusted to give a snug fit and have air bellows within side supports which firm up to keep your body well planted in hard cornering or take off.

Anyway, the front seats are heated in case you might want to take a night drive up to Genting Highlands.

Even the throttle and brake pedals along with the foot operated parking brake lever have been given a sporty makeover, in stainless steel and with rubber studs.

The E 55’s gearbox is the AMG-derived five-speed automatic instead of the seven-speed 7G-tronic gearboxes type in many current Mercs to handle the enormous torque of 700Nm from the wide 2,650 to 4,000rpm band.

Nevertheless, gearshifts are still seamless and silky smooth as what you would easily expect from this marque.

Although the flank speed of the E 55 has been electronically limited to 250kph, the speedometer is calibrated to show a top speed of 320kph, probably to indicate the full potential of the 5.5-litre engine if left unrestrained.

The Airmatic suspension system can be adjusted to give three levels of damping from comfort to sporty.

The air suspension system also keeps the E 55 level and even under hard cornering besides preventing squat or dive.

The large 18-inch low profile tyres provides enough grip to plant the car onto the tarmac even when we were a bit exuberant in taking a winding stretch of the LDP.

The interior with its load of sound insulation mutes out the exhaust growl until a spirited drive allows the tailpipe roar to seep inside.

Keyless Go system which is found in most upscale cars these days, comes standard equipment in our test E 55, taking away the need to grope your pockets for the car key.

Safety features are aplenty befitting a car of this stature and class, where four airbags, anti-lock braking system, electronic stability programme and brake assist come standard.

The brake system with the slope hold function prevents the car from rolling back when stopped at a slope.

You get all round two-tone nappa and nubuck AMG leather upholstery combination to give a nice balance of luxury and sportiness.

But there is something else that almost any two-door coupes can’t do that the E55 does with easy - seat five adults in comfort and luxury.

The E 55 easily dispenses the claustrophobic experience of smaller coupes where they are rather stingy with rear head, shoulder and leg space.

And you get enough bootspace to pack in suitcases with enough clothes for all onboard for two weeks or more.

Although the price for this executive hotrod has not been announced, be prepared to fork out a seven-figure to take the E 55 home.

Taking sides

The CLS 55 is a higher-end model than the E 55 as it is slotted in between the E-Class and the S-Class, carving out a niche of its own. The super coupe certainly looks and feels a step up from the E 55 AMG even though both use the same engine and offer similar specs and trim.

DaimlerChrysler thinks the CLS makes a strong case for its existence. For a car that is a little bigger and 85kg heavier than the E-Class, performance figures are not that much apart, thanks to the AMG treatment on the same mechanicals.

That’s just the numbers talking. The driving dynamics are quite different. The E 55 AMG is boxy relative to the wind-shearing profile of the CLS that has a lower centre of gravity.

If the E 55 AMG is a sleeper hotrod, the CLS AMG is an overt hotter-rod that declares it’s pretty, sharp and quick on the ball.

A cursory glance at the E 55 AMG would have most people thinking this is just a standard E-Class that has a few wannabe urges.

Its breadth of abilities would only be fully appreciated once it's put to the test. In the CLS case, its sleek go-fast styling leaves one in no doubt which lane it's meant to stay on.

As market segmentation goes, there are plenty of folks out there who like their Mercs the neoclassical way. For a sporty theme straight out of the factory, the E 55 AMG offers a high performance car that is modern yet familiar.

Then again, there’s another breed new to the brand who needs more flash and meat to lure them to consider owning the three-pointed star amid a bevy of other equally worthy alternatives.

The CLS AMG is DaimlerChrysler’s retort to the competition.

Don’t overlook the issue of whether a four-seater or five-seater will do. It’s a poser that requires a very personal and individual response.

Sonorous Sonata
01.08.07 (11:23 am)   [edit]
The arrival of the new Hyundai Sonata CVVT-i is expected to bolster Oriental-Hyundai Sdn Bhd's position in the mid-level executive sedan segment.

The company, a subsidiary of Oriental Holdings Bhd, is looking at a growth figure of 15% this year in its Hyundai car sales from the 4,000 units sold last year, according to Oriental Holdings Bhd’s group managing director Datuk Robert Wong.

All dressed up and ready to go ...
This increase in market share will be spearheaded by the Sonata - which is competing against the likes of the Toyota Camry and Honda Accord - as well as the upcoming Elantra set to be introduced in the second quarter of the year.

Wong said the company was optimistic that the new Sonata, Hyundai's flagship model, will do well due to its attractive specifications and high value-for-money factor. It is targeting to sell 1,500 to 1,800 units of the model, which is available in 2.0 and 2.4-litre engine versions.

Rear view of the Sonata.
The 2.0 and 2.4-litre powerplants feature Continuously Variable Valve Timing, and the Sonata is equipped with an Intelligent Dual Mode automatic transmission. Safety features include intelligent dual airbags, ABS, electronic brakeforce distribution and seatbelt pretensioners.

The Sonata 2.0-litre and 2.4-litre models are expected to retail at RM118,000 and RM128,000 respectively.

Daihatsu Boon Headed to Europe as Subie!
01.06.07 (11:45 am)   [edit]

Dammit! The Boon has us surrounded and we are powerless to resist. Our favorite keicar is headed to Europe to be sold as a Subaru. Of course, this opens up potential for an STi version of the fully-awesome Boon X4. It's enough for us to consider closing up our Pedro office and founding a Jalopnik Paris bureau. The as-yet-unnamed Subaru variant could see showroom floors on the Continent as soon as later this year. No word on whether the R5-shrinky-dink Esse will follow.

2007 Jeep Trailhawk Concept
01.06.07 (11:45 am)   [edit]

This year’s Jeep concept is called the Trailhawk. Based on the Wrangler Unlimited chassis, important tidbits of information are that it’s powered by a V-6 turbo-diesel; the cargo area is roofless with a fold down tailgate and sliding load floor drawer; and it has an ipod compatible sound system nestled in the bed. The Trailhawk has an aggressive look, especially when you’re locking eyes with its menacing front fascia. Jeep says the Trailhawk Concept “merges the spectrum of the brand by combining the core features of the new body-on-frame Jeep Wrangler with the refined sophistication of the unibody Jeep Grand Cherokee.” We think it looks great and we’d take one over a Liberty, a Grand Cherokee, or a Commander--or maybe all three.

I was always amazed with wonderful Dress Up Games on The Doll Palace. These guys know how to entertain kids. My kids are spending hours looking at their cartoon dolls and new coloring pages.

Do you know there's so many types of furniture?

pine furniture oak bedroom furniture oak coffee tables

This is a great years for me. After all this years of hardworking now I am able to own my own house. I’ve been working hard all this time just to get my dream house. Me and my wife has never been happier since our baby girl came to our life. At first I thought getting the house is the hardest part, yet now I have to faced a new problems already. Its how should I get the perfect furniture for my house?

We all knew that in this matter, woman always want to be in charge for it. They will be the judged in what to buy and where to put it. It’s funny when my wife and my daughter always argue about where to place the furniture. As for me, sigh! to them I am merely the source of money to buy those things. My wife specifically told me she want a pine furniture for the dining room. I have no idea that it's hard to buy furniture for the house, they seem to know all details about it. Even she told me she want an oak furniture for our bedroom. And here I was thinking that there’s only one types of furniture and that is.....…furniture.

Things are different with my daughter. She want her bedroom furniture to be pink in color. I might as well get her rooms decorate in a powerpuff girls theme. That might be fun right?

This week will be a very tiring and busy for me. With all the shopping, let us put aside all the precious time that will be wasted on window shopping. I miss my bed already.
