www.cuil.com – a new search engine created by ex-Google employees provides thumbnail images next to search results. The nature of algorithm they use to determine which thumbnail to use for each search result is unclear. What is clear, is that it is broken – terribly so. It seems that the thumbnail Cuil uses next to search results does not have to come from the actual site that appears in the results.

If you search Cuil for Free Games for example, the second result lists www.CoffeBreakArcade.com with www.playedonline.com logo appearing next to it. Whatever the reasoning behind it, website like PlayedOnline can claim that their logo is being used to promote other websites.

Whether this is a byproduct of bad design or simply a bug is unknown, but my legal opinion is that there is definitely a case for a lawsuit here. Especially when you consider that Played Online, that ranks #2 in Google for the search term Free Games, isn’t even listed as a result on Cuil but its logo is used there. Another problematic fact is that the PlayedOnline logo is actually clickable and leads to the Coffe Break Arcade website.

Several weeks back, a couple of friends and I were on vacation in Bulgaria. Since we’ve heard nothing but interesting stories of this south-eastern European country from our friends who have made the journey there, we decided to make a trip there ourselves to see what the fuss is about. We agreed to fly to Bulgaria in June as we have been told that it was the best time to visit the place from a scenic and cuisine point of view. We ended the night with dinner at a local restaurant called Beyond the Alley. We started our 2nd day at 6am as we wanted to catch the early morning service at Rila Monastery which is a site listed under UNESCO. We then had lunch at Drushliavitsa restaurant, which was quite close to the monastery. After that, we headed south to Melnik where we did some city tour. Day 3 started out with a morning drive to the heritage village of Kovachevitsa. We stopped by at Leshten for lunch before continuing our journey.

When we arrived at the village, we were amazed by the architectural style of the buildings which remained till this day. As the area was surrounded by canyons, crystal clear rivers and thick forests, we were treated to one of the best scenic views in Bulgaria. We spent our 4th day heading back to Sofia where we did some last minute souvenir shopping and sightseeing. We retired to bed early as we had an early flight the next morning. At the end of our trip, we only had this to say about Bulgaria – truly mesmerizing. And if given the chance, we would definitely visit this wonderful country again in the future.

When I visited Grandma last Thanksgiving, I noticed an old radio on the mantelpiece. It’s summer and I’m not one who fancies outdoor activities. In fact, I would very much prefer to remain at home watching DVDs or playing some online games.
